Indian Institute of Astrophysics, Kodaikanal & Bengaluru

The Indian Institute of Astrophysics is one of India’s top-notch colleges dedicated to research in astronomy, astrophysics and related physics. The IIA, Bangalore can be traced back to an observatory set up in the erstwhile Madras (now Chennai) in 1786. This observatory has now been shifted to Kodaikanal. It is an autonomous society called the Indian Institute of Astrophysics. It is funded by the Department of Science and Technology and is devoted to research and education of astronomy & Physics. The major observation centres are located at Kodaikanal, Kavalur, Gauribidanur ad Hanle (in south-eastern Ladakh). The Bangalore campus has an extensive library, computer centre, physics laboratories and electronics, photonics and mechanical laboratories supporting an active instruments development programme.
